for Striped Bass and Bluefish

Picture of Manchester rocky shoreline Come fish the rocky coastline and sandy beaches along Cape Ann's shores with the On-Line Fishing Charters Team. Our captains have fished these waters for years and know them intimately. A day's fishing trip will take you to a diverse group of fishing environments. Casting into surf breaking against the many rocky islands along this scenic coast allows anglers the thrill of hooking large stripers in their preferred habitat. As the captain positions the boat tight to the rocks, anglers cast their flies within inches of the shore. Stripers often feed close to the rocks in the surf and foam. Structure appears as waves surge in and out of the rocks. Your next stop may well be over sand bright enough and water shallow enough to remind you of the Bahama's. As we drift over these sand flats, sight-casting to roving schools of stripers, it is hard not to compare this experience to bonefishing. Stripers can be found on these flats during most of the day and are usually willing to take flies aggressively. Picture of Essex River sand flats. Our next stop might be one of the tidal estuaries and rivers found along Boston's North Shore or we may move a short distance offshore to one of the many rock ledges to be found nearby. These ledges allow anglers the opportunity to catch the large bass and bluefish which frequent these areas. In addition to the lack of crowds and angling pressure that Cape Ann offers, one is able to visit these diverse fishing spots without spending valuable time traveling. All of these areas can be reached within a 3 mile radius of our dock. This means no more than ten minutes of traveling since our boats are capable of traveling at speeds in excess of 40 knots. Come join us for a day you won't soon forget. We have a full time mate who works on the boat and is an experienced casting instructor. We provide food and drinks on all of our trips. All equipment and flies will be provided by us. All bookings must be made in advance. You will receive a faxed or mailed confirmation of your trip within three days of making the arrangements. Let us introduce you to all that Boston's North Shore has to offer Picture of John Pirie with his son.

Catch-and-Release fishing is encouraged. Given the depleted status of our fisheries it is in everyone's best interests to practice these techniques. We participate in tagging research for the American Littoral Society and the National Marine Fisheries Service's Apex Predator Study.

Bluefish on the North Shore
Bluefish have returned in decent numbers during the past two seasons. While the fish are not present in the size schools so common during the 80's, they have nonetheless become a good target for flyfishers again. Increasingly common in the offshore waters, these voracious predators have begun to invade the nearshore waters in recent summers. While not always dependable, one encounters them with increasing frequency each summer. During the daytime, large blues in the 15-18 pound range often fin at the surface. A delicately presented fly, stripped in front of them almost always elicits a vicious response. On 8 wt. rods, these fish offer a lengthy and spirited fight.
